WYGALATOR

Through separate myriad guises, Wygalator’s core members, Janet Wygal and Tedd Prudhomme, acquired their musical checkered pasts from within the early East Village and Hoboken music scenes and, more recently, in the Hudson Valley. For the past several years, they’ve been huddling in their Rosendale attic, writing and recording atmospheric, quirky guitar-and-organ-centric songs whose moods range from the forlorn and bittersweet to the cautiously cheerful. In the past, both Janet and Tedd have been fortunate enough to collaborate with a number of indie-rock luminaries who just happened to be their friends. And you may know Janet from the theme songs she wrote and recorded with her band Splendora for the animated series Daria—but those won’t tell you a lot about Wygalator. So come find out more and, while you’re at it, help them celebrate the recently ripened vinyl fruits of their labor. Joining them onstage will be the fab and fun Sammi Niss, Mark Lerner, and Jon Blackstone Steele.

Jem loves listening. She is grateful for the inspiration she draws from her many teachers, including Pauline Oliveros, John Luther Adams, the Hudson River, cicadas, rocks, and mushrooms. Her electric piano music uses elements of minimalist music and psychoacoustics to encourage an intimate experience of listening.
