Three established duos comprise these two outfits: Eisenberg & Davis, Mattrey & fluke-mogul, Williams & Shiroishi. Guitarist-composer Eisenberg can do anything on their instrument and yet the pyrotechnics are subtle. They play in the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet and Darlin' (with Ryan Sawyer & Lester St. Louis) among many other configurations. Caroline Davis is a saxophonist and composer who has created works for strings, dance, and ensembles in both post-bebop and jittery chamber jazz realms. The double duo of violist Mattrey, violinist fluke-mogul, trumpeter Williams, and saxophonist Shiroishi is another creature altogether, fusing expressive physicality with spatial texture in a drummerless (but not un-percussive) context.
